#1 Penfolds Grange 1995

The 1995 Penfolds Grange is a classic vintage Australian wine, crafted by the legendary pioneering Australian winemaker Max Schubert. This rare, exquisite wine, offering purity and balance through its rigorous selection of Shiraz grapes, is destined to become a classic Grange.

Region: Barossa Valley Wine Region (South Australia)
Grapes: 94% Shiraz, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol volume: 13.5%
Colour: Deep crimson
Wine body: Full-bodied
Bouquet: Masses of concentrated plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit aromas with developed characters of cedar, spice, truffle, leather and dark chocolate.
Palate: This wine offers a powerful, richly-flavoured palate with seductive sweet, ripe, dark stewed raspberry, dark plum, blackcurrant and mixed spices with a hint of liquorice and ginger. Seamless, well-seasoned, toasty, spicy oak with chewy, softening, crumbly tannins.

#2 Mosswood Margaret River 1995

The Mosswood Margaret River 1995 is a soft, silky wine of great intensity and concentration.

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc

Colour: Opaque crimson with brick red hues

Bouquet: Intensely fruity, perfumed with aromas of mulberry, raspberry, violets, blackcurrant, plum and spice with merlot and malbec earthiness.

#3 Cullen Cabernet Merlot 1996

Cullen’s iconic Cabernet Merlot has always been a prime candidate for ageing. Cullen’s mature estate vineyards in Margaret River produce long-lived wines of highly individual style. This 1996 is a perfect example, offering a great depth of flavour with a classically refined structure.

Grapes: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, produced from 25 year old non-irrigated vines
Alcohol volume: 13.5%
Colour: Opaque crimson mauve
Wine body: Medium bodied
Bouquet: Layers of ripe fruit aromas, including rich blackcurrant, mulberry and plum characters, with a hint of pepper, violet and liquorice, perfectly intertwined with cedar oak.
Palate: This intensely flavoured wine is smooth, sweet and well-balanced, with great weight and concentration of ripe blackcurrant, plum, spice and chocolate flavours, interwoven with liquorice and a touch of cinnamon. It has a long aftertaste of ripe plum and cinnamon spice.

#4 Houghton Jack Mann 1994

Jack Mann is widely regarded as a pioneer and one of the greatest winemakers in Western Australia, for good reason. The Houghton Jack Mann 1994 is a testament to his creative genius and exquisite palate.

Region: Great Southern Wine Region (Western Australia)
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Shiraz
Alcohol volume: 13.5%
Colour: Medium to full purple-red
Wine body: Full-bodied
Bouquet: Lovely delicate aromas of brambles and ripe fruit, blending plum, mulberry, cedar, vanilla and spice.
Palate: Offering fine-grained supple tannins which are almost sweet or creamy, the wine is full of ripe brambly red fruited flavours and faint herbal and savoury earthy accents. Long dark fruits swirl around the palate.

#5 Jasper Hill Emily’s Paddock 1997

Jasper Hill’s red wines are much sought after for their rich, full flavour, smooth tannins and great acidity backdrop.

Region: Heathcote Wine Region (Victoria)
Grapes: Shiraz
Alcohol volume: 14.0%
Colour: Medium ruby
Wine body: Medium-bodied
Bouquet: Sweet florals and deeply perfumed spices, suggesting ripe black dusty cherries, cloves, musk, and a hint of crushed mint.
Palate: The taste is deep, spicy and silky-smooth with great weight, densely packed with cassis, raspberries, cherries, ground coffee, cedar and vanilla oak. A beautifully balanced wine with a long finish.
